| About Indian Institute of Spices Research |
The Indian Institute of Spices Research (IISR), Kozhikode (Calicut) a constituent body of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is a major Institute devoted to research on spices. In 1976, it started as a Regional Station of the Central Plantation Crops Research Institute (CPCRI), Kasaragod engaged in research on spices.
A National Research Centre for Spices was established in 1986 with its headquarters at Kozhikode , Kerala by merging the erstwhile Regional Station of CPCRI at Kozhikode and Cardamom Research Centre at Appangala, Karnataka. Realising the importance of Spices Research in India this Research Centre was upgraded to Indian Institute of Spices Research on 1st July, 1995....More

| Goa Speaker visits IISR |
Pratap Singh Rane, the honorable Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly, visited the Indian Institute of Spices Research (IISR) Kozhikode here on Thursday. IISR Director Dr. M Anandaraj and other scientists received him at the Institute guest house
He visited the Agricultural Technology Information Centre (ATIC), Library and research laboratories an interacted with the scientist on various aspects of spice cultivation and the ongoing research projects of the Institute. He was also briefed with the 11th Plan priorities of the Institute such as mechanization, secondary agriculture and value addition to exploit the medicinal and therapeutic properties of various spice crops......More

Phytophthora genome decoded Dr. HP Singh launched the Phytophthora Genome Database developed by IISR. The genome of Phytophthora, the fungus-like organism that causes the dreaded foot rot disease of black pepper, has been completely sequenced for the first time by a group of scientists of Indian Institute of Spices Research, Calicut. “The Phytophthora Genome database will surely help researchers in understanding how the pathogen interacts with the host and how the mechanism will change once the plant is affected by the pathogen, etc.,” said Dr. HP Singh. Vigilance Awareness Week Celebrations (31 Oct–5 Nov 2011)
The Vigilance Awareness Week celebrations of the Indian Institute of Spices Research, Kozhikode (Calicut), was held during 31 October-5 November 2011. The programme was initiated on 31 October 2011 with a pledge by all the staff to eradicate corruption in all spheres of life. Dr. M. Anandaraj, Director, administered the pledge to the staff. Dr. S. Devasahayam, Vigilance Officer, highlighted the theme of this year’s vigilance awareness week celebrations, namely, participative vigilance, and the role of citizens in preventing corruption.
Various competitions were held during the week for staff of the institute and school children to create awareness in vigilance.
