ICAR-Indian Institute of Spices Research (IISR), on 27 February , observed national science day with the virtual demonstration of models and inventions by college students. A key note lecture on “Revisiting Raman” on National Science Day was also held as part of the event.
Dr. Manoj Komath, Scientist (G) at Sree Chitra Thirunal Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology who was the chief guest at the virtual Science Day observance delivered the address recalling the life and scientific temperament of Nobel Laureate C V Raman. Citing the life of the C V Raman, Dr. Manoj urged young scientists to get inspired from the dedication and passion of Raman towards science.
Dr. J Rema, director, ICAR-IISR presided over the programme. Science and technology is essential for the social and economic progress of a nation, she said during her presidential address. “We have a very strong background of science and technology that is why our country has succeeded in developing vaccines for Covid 19. Technological interventions have helped the education system to continue its pace during the Covid-19 period, pointed out Dr. Rema. She also stressed the need for more technological interventions to control climatic changes and to reverse global warming.
Mahi Teja Talluri, Arya SS, Aman Tripathi and Aneeja K J from National Institute of Technology Calicut won first prize in the science day competition by presenting the virtual model of their IoT based multipurpose uniform water showering mechanism for urban agriculture.
Ashwin K Krishnan from NITC bagged second prize for IoT based Hospital Management System and G Kiran Kumar for IoT based Home Management System. Dr. D Prasath and Dr. C Sarathambal also spoke on the occasion.
