Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights at IISR

Kozhikode: The Institute Technology Management - Business Planning and Development (ITM-BPD) Unit at the Indian Institute of Spices Research (IISR), Kozhikode, organized a one day workshop on “Harnessing Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) & its Management for Growth and Prosperity” on Thursday at its campus in Chelavoor.

Dr. V S Ramachandran, Director of Regional Science Centre and Planetarium, Kozhikode inaugurated the workshop. He stressed on the need for safe guarding intellectual property rights, especially in the area of scientific research, for growth and prosperity. The workshop was organized in collaboration with National Research Development Corporation (NRDC), New Delhi. Around 100 participants from research organizations, educational institutes and developmental agencies participated.

IISR Director, Dr. M Anandaraj presided over the function. Mr. N G Lakshminarayan, Manager, NRDC, Bengaluru, briefed about the activities of NRDC. Dr. PS Pravin Raj, Senior Scientist, CSIR-NIIST, Trivandrum, spoke about ‘Indian Patent System’ and Mr. Lawwellman, Associate Professor, National Law College, Kozhikode, made a presentation on ‘Overview of IPR Spectrum in India’.

Mr. T C James, President, National Intellectual Property Organization, New Delhi, spoke about ‘Geographical Indications’ and Dr. Manoj Srivastava, Registrar; PPV&FR Authority, spoke in detail about the ‘Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Rights in context of Spices Research’.

Dr. TE Sheeja, Member Secretary, ITM-BPD Unit welcomed the gathering and Ms. Anshu Rani, Business Manager, proposed the vote of thanks
