Management of rhizome scale of ginger and turmeric
The rhizome scale (Aspidiella hartii) can be managed by dipping of seed rhizomes in quinalphos 0.05% for 15 minutes before storage. Severely infested rhizomes are to be discarded before storage. By adopting this treatment maximum recovery of seed rhizomes and sprouts can be obtained which would result in higher germination percentage in the field.

Management of shoot borer of ginger

The shoot borer (Conogethes punctiferalis) can be managed by pruning off and destroying infested shoots during July-August (at fortnightly intervals) and spraying insecticide (malathion 0.1%) during September - October (at monthly intervals). By adopting this integrated strategy, maximum yield was obtained and the number of insecticide sprays required for the management of the pest could be reduced, thus conserving natural enemies and causing less harm to the environment.

'Katte' resistant cardamom lines
Based on 18 years observation both in experimental station and different locations three lines of cardamom viz. NKE - 9, 12 and 19 are found to be resistant to 'Katte' and high yielding. These are recommended for release.

High yielding ginger lines
Based on 5 years of multilocational trial at farmers field and quality evaluation, two ginger lines Acc.117 and 35 are found to be very promising. Acc.117 has 23.2 t/ha fresh yield with 23% dry recovery, 1.72% oil, 4.5% oleoresin and 3.2 % crude fibre. Acc.35 has 22.4 t/ha fresh yield with 19% dry recovery, 2.4% oil, 6.3% oleoresin and 4% crude fibre. These lines were developed through germplasm selection and the rhizomes are bold in nature with good dry recovery.
